Timeline of the Adipurush issue: The Prabhas-starring film Adipurush has stirred up controversy despite being one of the most anticipated films of the year.
The Adipurush controversy's timeline: Despite being one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year, Adipurush, starring Prabhas, has generated plenty of controversy. Here is a look at all the commotion the movie has created, from the teaser to Kriti Sanon and Om Raut's visit to the Lord Venkateswara temple, before it is released on June 16, 2023.
Commentary by saif Ali Khan on ravan:
The initial dispute surrounding Adipurush occurred over three years ago. Saif Ali Khan, who would play Ravana in the next Prabhas film, stated in an interview from 2020 that the film would emphasise a more "humane" aspect of Ravana. The B-town star later apologised for his statement, though. Later, the actor issued a sincere apology to everyone and withdrew his statement. For me, Lord Ram has always represent in morality and bravery. In Adipurush, the triumph of good over evil is celebrated.
Dispute around the Adipurush teaser:
Everyone, from social media users to political leaders, had something to say about the teaser when it was posted. While Madhya Pradesh's home minister, Narottam Mishra, blasted the preview for portraying Hindus incorrectly, the chief priest of the Ayodhya Ram shrine advocated for the prohibition of Adipurush due to its misrepresentation of Lord Ram and Hanuman. In addition, lawyer Himanshu Srivastava filed a lawsuit against five people, including Om Raut, Prabhas, and Saif Ali Khan, alleging that the movie's teaser had lewd images of Lord Ram, Sita, Hanuman, and Ravana.
Furthermore, it was charged with ripping off scenes from popular Hollywood productions like Game of Thrones, Planet of the Apes, Jungle Book, and others.
Calls for the film's ban:
Attorney Raj Gaurav petitioned a Delhi court for a permanent injunction against producers Bhushan Kumar and Om Raut after the posters and teasers were made public, alleging that they had misrepresented the basics of the Ramayana. Even a large number of online users urged that the Prabhas-starring film be banned for "misrepresenting culture."
Adipurush poster sparks controversy again:
In April of this year, a fresh grievance was filed against producers, musicians, and director Om Raut. In the complaint, Sanjay Dinanath Tiwari claimed that "the filmmaker Om Raut has inappropriately displayed the character of the Hindi religious text Ramcharitmanas in the new poster of the film, hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindu religion society." Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, attorneys with the Mumbai High Court, were the attorneys who handled the case.
